Italianate Gilt Dining Set

Set of 10x Italianate gilt-painted wooden carved dining Chairs, first quarter 20th Century. Arched top carved with openwork swags of rose-heads and scrolling Acanthus, with further Acanthus and flowerhead swags to the frame, above Acanthus-carved supports to backrest. The back and stuff-over seat upholstered in burgundy silk embroidered with ivory rose-heads, above a shaped apron with conforming open carving, on two front flowerhead and Acanthus-capped cabriole legs and back cabriole, on four scroll-carved feet.

Vintage Italianate gilt and hand-painted ten-seater wooden dining table, first quarter 20th Century, the shaped rectangular top Bauernmalerei hand-painted with sprays of ivory, burgundy flowerheads and green foliage against a gilt-painted ground, with further painted ivory and pale brown scrolling Acanthus-leaves and lattice-work decoration, above four shaped and gilt-painted aprons carved in relief with swags of rose-heads, flowerheads, shells and scrolling Acanthus-leaves, on four Acanthus and rose-head capped cabriole legs with scroll and Acanthus feet, the underside of table also gilt-painted with traces of original gold leaf. Table matches Dining Chairs beautifully.
